design brief
Design a functional stool piece that incorporates a vintage, upcycled element for additional interest. This piece will be designed for a speakeasy/nightlife environment, and is meant to emanate a dark and moody nature. This will be designed using various woods and metals to increase variation and visual contrast.

persona
Located in New York, this person owns a popular night life destination that pays homage to 1920s speakeasies and design styles. Aims to provide a classy yet interesting atmosphere for guests, with appealing and funky furniture.
The owner finds it difficult to find furniture that not only serves as a seating option, but also a functional and eye-catching piece to influence the atmosphere of the establishment.
Pain Points:
finding accessible vintage looking furniture
functional pieces do not always fit the atmosphere
most stools are too minimalistic
Goals:
keep a steady aesthetic for the atmosphere
wants to incorporate an upcycled/vintage element to fit the moody and dark aesthetic
material research
reels were sourced from local antique stores for a reasonable price
wood was sourced by local lumber stores
pROCESS
full size cardboard model made for anthropometric testing
wood base and seat were CNC cut in studio
flange was 3D printed for precise fit around pipe
steel flange bolted to wooden base for added security
